Best Restaurant on Lake Martin

Best Restaurant on Lake Martin

Lake Martin has no shortage of entertainment. I mean there’s more happening up there on a random summer Saturday than there is at Disney World. The entry fee is much more palatable too.

My favorite of the various watering holes would have to be Chuckwalla’s Pizza at, you guessed it, Chuck’s Marina. This location draws quite a crowd this time of year. I’m not sure if it's the family friendly atmosphere, friendly patrons and waitstaff, relatively affordable prices, or maybe it's that they're not driving away customers with dress code rules. The pet-friendly policy is also appreciated by dog owners and canines alike. The new second-level addition provides quite the lookout. It’s one of the more casual venues you’ll find on Lake Martin, although eyebrows are sure to be raised if you're arriving in a fleet of souped-up Jon boats. Be prepared to respond to, “What kind of motor is that?”, if you’re the proud owner of a surface drive.

Personally, I recommend the Lake Lover, Meat Supreme (with onions), and Goat Island is also good. I haven't tried anything else here, but I haven't had the need to either. Next time I might try… actually, I’ll never try anything else.

Later in the evening, sitting back with a libation from a calculated vantage point, watching people from Birmingham bump the dock with their week-old, port-side Mercury 300R while their wife offers unsolicited instruction is always a thrill. I have watched a pontoon boat smush in the pointy part of a ‘toon on at least one occasion.
